Exhibitions Now On
1895 Baguashan Resistance Against Japan and Defense of Taiwan History Permanent Exhibition (彰化縣1895八卦山抗日保台史蹟常態展)
At the entrance of the exhibition hall, a series of display boards reveal the defeat of the Qing court in the First Sino-Japanese War and the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki ceding Taiwan, which triggered a series of wars by the Taiwanese people to resist Japan and protect Taiwan; in the 1895 Yiwei War, the anti-Japanese volunteer army fought all the way to Baguashan, writing a tragic chapter in blood. Unfortunately, due to insufficient film funding, this part was not emphasized much, but the bravery of the Taiwanese and Changhua people in loving their land and protecting their country cannot be erased from history.
A guide explains the history of Shunpanro to children from preschools visiting the Anti-Japanese War History Museum. He says Shunpanro is a very beautiful name, but an unfortunate event happened there over 100 years ago when the Manchu Qing court negotiated with Japan, resulting in Taiwan being ceded to Japan. The children blink their innocent eyes, nodding as if they understand.
The Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that in 2006, the County Magistrate instructed the planning of air-raid shelters and tunnels based on the concept of a War History Museum Park to evoke memories of the anti-Japanese war and add a new recreational themes to the Baguashan Great Buddha Scenic Area. The Cultural Affairs Bureau therefore constructed the "Baguashan War History Tunnel - Air-Raid Shelter Experience Zone" and planned the "Anti-Japanese Martyrs Memorial Park as the Yiwei Peace Memorial Park," which was completed in February this year.
