The 2026 Zhushan Bamboo Art Lantern Festival (2026竹山竹藝燈會) opened on December 31, 2025, and the exhibition continues until March 7, 2026. The main lantern, "Horse Leaping and Butterfly Dancing" (馬躍蝶舞), is located at the Zhushan Tobacco Leaf Plant (竹山菸葉館). Sponsored by Zinan Temple (紫南宮) and handcrafted by bamboo art master Qiu Jinduan (邱錦緞), it integrates local materials from Zhushan with diverse crafts to present an artistic landscape full of local sentiment.
Horses have symbolized wealth and strength since ancient times and are loyal companions in people's lives. They are steady, gentle, and capable of carrying heavy loads, making them an irreplaceable presence in production and travel. The cherished love for fine horses also reflects people's kindness and virtue.
This year's main lantern combines traditional lantern frames with delicate bamboo weaving, elegantly outlining the horse's posture and texture as if it were about to leap forward at any moment. The blooming flowers around it attract migrating Crow Butterflies (紫斑蝶) to stop and rest. The butterfly wings are made of velvet texture and inlaid with colored glass hand-fired by Master Lin Fang-shih (林芳仕). When the sunlight shines, the colors from pale purple to bright blue are dreamlike, symbolizing Zhushan's commitment to protecting nature and cherishing the land.
