2026 Zhushan Bamboo Art Lantern Festival - Friday Stage Performance: Meiwu Creative Team (魅舞創意團隊)

Date: 2026-03-06 Organizer: (中華民國)魅舞創意團隊
The 2026 Zhushan Bamboo Art Lantern Festival opens on December 31, 2025, and runs through March 7, 2026. The lantern areas are located at the Zhushan Tobacco Leaf Plant (菸葉館), Lianxing Temple (連興宮), and Mu'ai Park (母愛公園).
Bamboo art has always been the signature feature of the Zhushan Lantern Festival. As 2025 is the Year of the Snake, bamboo art master Lin Jian-cheng (林建成) and artisan Hsu Ming-shan (許銘珊) were specially invited to collaborate on the Year of the Snake main lantern, "Snake Dance for a Bountiful Year" (蛇舞豐年), sponsored by Zinan Temple (紫南宮).
The 2026 festival's main lantern, "Galloping Horse and Dancing Butterfly" (馬躍蝶舞), is installed at the Zhushan Tobacco Leaf Plant. Sponsored by Zinan Temple and handcrafted by bamboo art master Chiu Chin-tuan (邱錦緞), it blends local Zhushan materials with diverse craftsmanship to present an artistic landscape filled with local sentiment. Since ancient times, the horse has symbolized wealth and power, serving as a loyal companion; steadfast, gentle, and capable of bearing heavy loads, it is an irreplaceable presence in production and travel. The appreciation for fine horses also reflects human kindness and virtue.
This year's main lantern combines traditional lantern frames with intricate bamboo weaving, elegantly outlining the horse's posture and texture as if it were about to leap forward. The surrounding blooming flowers attract migrating Crow butterflies, whose wings are made of velvet and inlaid with colored glass hand-fired by Master Lin Fang-shih (林芳仕). When illuminated by sunlight, the colors ranging from pale purple to bright blue create a dreamlike effect, symbolizing Zhushan's dedication to protecting nature and the land.
In the Zhushan Tobacco Leaf Plant area, artisans from Zhushan, Nantou, and Miaoli have worked tirelessly to create 26 exquisite pieces. Each work is lifelike, featuring cute horses, refined horses, and spirited steeds ready to gallop—each one is a total eye-catcher.
During the festival, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening, as well as from New Year's Eve to the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, the Tobacco Leaf Plant will host exciting performances along with food stalls and food trucks, allowing everyone to experience the enchanting nocturnal charm of Zhushan.
