Animal Transmutation: SPIRITUAL ALCHEMIST (動物神變)
《Spiritual Alchemy: Animal Transmutation (動物神變): When the Light of Spirituality Illuminates Artistic Brushstrokes, the Meeting of Eastern Transformation and the Western Philosopher's Stone》
This is not just a modern art exhibition, but a journey of the soul. When spirituality and art meet, an "artistic alchemy" that spans culture, time, and space begins.
Starting from an art game, from the spirit of Eastern ink to Western symbolic thinking, "Animal Transmutation (動物神變)" connects two artists—Stéphane Geiser from Switzerland and ABin Chang (阿濱) from Taiwan—reinterpreting the spirit of "literati painting" with contemporary artistic vocabulary, allowing traditional culture and modern spiritual practice to resonate on the canvas as a brand-new form of modern art.
In this creative dialogue, Stéphane uses rational and poetic brushstrokes to integrate the quiet contemplation of Eastern philosophy; ABin uses spiritual and intuitive energy to transform animal imagery into symbols of spiritual archetypes. Their exchange, like the intertwining of East wind and West rain, generates a tension between form and "qi" in the images. In their artistic creations, every layer of color and every flow of ink is a spiritual breath, a rebirth of spirituality combined with art.
Under their brushstrokes, "animals" are no longer just depictions of physical forms but reflections of the human subconscious and metaphors for spiritual cultivation. Every animal in the paintings symbolizes different stages of transformation in the process of life's spiritual practice, reflecting the spiritual metamorphosis of these two modern artists between self-exploration and artistic practice. These works not only continue the spirit of literati painting's "observing things with the heart" but also expand the possibilities of spiritual art painting in the contemporary era with a modern artistic vocabulary.
In this exhibition, what you will see is not just paintings, but a kind of spiritual writing. It is a gaze and reflection on oneself, nature, and culture—when Eastern and Western artistic thoughts meet on the canvas, a new language of "Taiwanese Modern Art" is born.
"Animal Transmutation (動物神變)" invites you to enter the intersection of art and spirituality and feel the silent energy between ink and pigment. This is a visual practice, as well as a looking back and moving forward of culture. You are welcome to quiet your mind and gaze at these paintings; perhaps you will find the light that illuminates your own spirituality within them.
Opening Reception / 2026.2.7 (Sat) 10:30-12:00
Lecture & Book Signing / 2/7 (Sat) 13:30-15:00
2/8 (Sun) 10:30-12:00
