Awaiting Poetry (待詩): Those Not Yet Sung - Wang Ting-yu (王挺宇) Solo Exhibition
"Awaiting Poetry" (待詩) attempts to return to a moment before the world was filled.
The DOS era interface was composed of minimal information: a black background, a line of text, and a blinking cursor. That was the starting point we once shared—waiting, imagining, and deducing the birth of a world within a limited framework. In such an environment, the scarcity of information instead gave width to the imagination; undefined blank space was more open than any completed image.
The works presented in this exhibition are mostly selections by the artist from 2017 to 2025. These fragments span time and creative stages, like the traces left by years of blinking cursors—undefined yet constantly waiting to be prompted.
The walking in "Travel Poetry" (旅詩) and the disappearance in "Songs of Deserted Villages" (遺村歌) are transformed here into a more primitive state: a world waiting for prompts.
Those pixel-like fragments, frame-like supports, and images that seem like subjects yet are not, collectively point to an unnamed existence. In the paintings, the true subject is not the objects themselves, but the suspended void they inhabit; it is the depth where the world has not yet taken shape, the breath before language and memory have settled. "Awaiting Poetry" is not the presentation of poetry, but the second before poetry.
It is the faint light when the cursor blinks, the silence before all stories begin.
It is also the ability we were once familiar with but are now gradually losing—the ability to wait for the world to happen in the black background.
