“Eating Red” Yang Chia-jung Solo Exhibition

Date: 2026-01-23 — 2026-03-21 Organizer: 當代一畫廊
Text by Yang Chia-jung
In the context of gambling, “Eating Red” symbolizes scoring and profiting; however, in Yang Chia-jung’s creation, it is extended to the gains, losses, and spiritual practice within relationships. Every score is often accompanied by an unnoticed loss; and the act of continuous betting stems from an inner lack that cannot be filled. The competitive heart temporarily cannot stop, thus risk becomes a kind of romance, as well as an unavoidable emotional projection.

Yang Chia-jung has long used figures as the core of her creation, focusing on the emotional representations revealed by people in different situations. Through the spatial layout in the images and the intervention of sentimental objects, she reflects those difficult-to-speak, subtle yet real emotional states. The images often stay at a calm yet critical moment—where intimacy and conflict coexist, silence and tension interweave, as if emotions are about to tilt but haven't yet lost balance.

These figure images respond to the unresolved frustrations and contradictions the artist faces in life, becoming gamblers who repeatedly chase dividends on behalf of the artist. Between repeated testing, loss, and reinvestment, the work not only depicts the game in relationships but also presents the individual's state of continuous spiritual practice between emotion and reality.

We sincerely invite friends to visit the exhibition, to feel the emotional field and psychological tension laid out by Yang Chia-jung in the works, and to reflect their own life experiences regarding gain, loss, investment, and risk.
