Ink Phantasm and Poetic Realm — Cheng Dai-le (程代勒) Solo Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition

Date: 2026-01-28 — 2026-05-08 Organizer: (中華民國)程代勒
In today's rapidly changing digital age, the cultural meaning and writing habits of traditional brush and ink seem to be gradually fading from daily experience. Cheng Dai-le (程代勒) responds to this era's proposition through his unique artistic practice; he is not only a calligrapher and painter who inherits the spirit of traditional brush and ink but also an artist brave enough to explore contemporary issues. He integrates the essence of traditional literati painting into a contemporary vision, creating a uniquely styled "New Literati Painting."

This exhibition reviews Cheng Dai-le's creative trajectory since the 1990s, selecting his important works in the fields of ink wash and calligraphy. It is organized into four themes: "Geometric Variations" uses the juxtaposition and reconstruction of cultural symbols through geometric shapes to convey contemporary natural interests; "Boundless Creation" reproduces the creation of Eastern nature through the formal deduction of symbols; "Wordly Allegory" interprets the pursuit of life's mysteries through the exploration of cultural symbols; "Realm of Calligraphic Imagery" applies techniques that are part-calligraphy and part-painting to embody the innovation of contemporary civilization's evolution.

Cheng Dai-le uses his unique brush and ink language to depict the beauty of nature and express concern for social phenomena. His works possess both traditional charm and a modern literati atmosphere, leading viewers to travel between ancient and modern, virtual and real. He believes that art is not only a visual presentation but also an expression of thought; his works combine elements of poetry, calligraphy, and painting, demonstrating deep cultural heritage. He uses brush and ink as a medium to explore the relationship between humans and nature/society, profoundly expressing reflections on life and culture.

"Ink Phantasm and Poetic Realm" not only shows Cheng Dai-le's inheritance and transformation of tradition but also reflects his active expansion of ink wash expression forms in a contemporary context. We sincerely invite viewers to step into this poetic realm woven by brush and ink, feeling the tension and extension of the ink art vocabulary in this dialogue between past and present.
