Kaomei Lecture | Galloping Freely: Sporting Life in Modern Art (高美講堂│自由馳騁:現代藝術中的運動生活)

Date: 2026-03-08 Organizer: (中華民國)曾少千
【Outline】
This lecture focuses on how modern artists depict the rich aspects of sporting life, portraying various physical experiences and inner struggles, desires, and resilience. Sporting life is not limited to competitions but also involves topics of leisure, healthcare, gender, class, and nation. When sports such as swimming, dancing, horse racing, and cycling became fashionable in Europe, this trend inspired many artists to engage in emerging subjects and stylistic experiments. Through the appreciation of wonderful paintings and prints, we will understand modern society's attitude toward sports and how creators express the discipline and momentum of the modern body.
