Kendo Culture Promotion (劍道文化推廣) - Iaido Course

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: (中華民國)社團法人高雄市劍道文化促進會
Over the years, the Bureau of Cultural Affairs (文化局) has collaborated with the Kaohsiung Kendo Culture Promotion Association (高雄市劍道文化促進會) to reconstruct and restore the original grandeur of the Wude Martial Arts Center (武德殿), successfully attracting Kendo enthusiasts for skill exchange.
Iaido techniques are divided into two main categories: seated and standing. These are the unified standard forms used today regardless of school (All Japan Kendo Federation - 12 Seitei Iai Katas). Kendo and Iaido are two sides of the same coin; many techniques and etiquette are closely linked. The Seitei Iai, developed by the All Japan Kendo Federation, consists of twelve fixed katas for practitioners to refine. It serves as an introductory model for beginners or Kendo practitioners entering Iaido before learning other schools. 'I' and 'ai' refer to the self and the opponent. The postures mainly consist of Seiza (seated) and standing Iaido techniques. It features sword techniques derived from Battojutsu (drawing the sword) and cutting techniques, combined with mental imagery rehearsal to achieve the goal of honing both technique and character.
