Light and Shadow: Micro-Exhibition of Important Historical Materials of Taiwan (臺灣) Around 1945
Taiwan (臺灣) around 1945 was an era where light and shadow intersected. This exhibition features numerous key archival materials, including those from Academia Historica (國史館) and Taiwan Historica (臺灣文獻館). Themes include the Cairo Declaration (開羅宣言), the end of the war, the surrender ceremony, the Nationalist government's takeover, the establishment of the Chief Executive's Office, the establishment of representative bodies at all levels, the takeover of Japanese property, the repatriation of Japanese nationals, the 228 Incident (二二八事變), and a series of important archives on de-Japanization and the promotion of Mandarin education. In addition to presenting key historical materials from the Nationalist government, the United States, Britain, Japan, and Taiwanese elites, it also includes materials from the "Chiang Kai-shek Diaries (蔣中正日記)" and the contributions made by Mr. Wang Ik-tok (王育德) in promoting compensation for Taiwanese Japanese soldiers, presenting the diverse faces of post-war Taiwan. Furthermore, about 21 public and private documents related to the transition of power in 1945 donated by Mr. Guo Heng-qing (郭恆慶) and others are on display, with added historical documents on de-Japanization such as household registration, ID cards, and road name changes.
This micro-exhibition not only invites everyone to look back at history but also to re-understand and reflect on the statements of various parties, using a diverse perspective to understand the light and shadow of Taiwan around 1945. Interested members of the public are welcome to visit.
