Artist Introduction
Violin | Chang Shan-hsin
Born in Taipei, Chang Shan-hsin won the first prizes in both Violin and Chamber Music at the Luigi Zanuccoli International Music Competition (Italy) in 2018. He has performed across France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, China, South Korea, and the Philippines. He graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and Zurich University of the Arts, studying under Marc Danel and Rudolf Koelman. He has performed as a soloist with the Musikkollegium Winterthur, ZHdK Strings, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Wenzhou City Symphony Orchestra, and Counterpoint Ensemble. He currently teaches at National Tainan University of the Arts and National Tsing Hua University.
Violin | Tsai Ning-chien
Taiwanese-American violinist Tsai Ning-chien is a highly acclaimed artist whose playing has been described as “gorgeous” and “soul-touching.” His mature interpretations of classical and contemporary works have earned him recognition on major stages worldwide. As the second prize and Chamber Music Prize winner of the 2019 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, he has received widespread acclaim for his solo and chamber music performances. From Autumn 2025, he joined the internationally renowned Callisto Quartet as first violinist, beginning intensive world tours and teaching residencies.
Counterpoint Ensemble
Established in 1997 by a group of like-minded elite musicians, the ensemble is deeply rooted in the musical environment of Southern Taiwan. Their performances span the entire island and major art festivals, including the TSMC Hsin-Chu Arts Festival and Tainan Arts Festival. They have been invited to perform at the Beijing Music Festival, in Shanghai and Suzhou, and at the Ålesund Festival in Europe. They are frequent guests at the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival. During 2021-2022, they launched the “Counterpoint Online Concert Hall” series. Recent collaborations with Weiwuying include the “Open House,” animated concerts, and the “Mad for Bach 24” series. Currently one of the “Taiwan Top” performing arts teams under the National Culture and Arts Foundation.
