Yu-ming and Yi-ting meet in a university library, fall in love, and marry. Their stable life is disrupted when Yi-ting’s emotional balance wavers during pregnancy, as past pressures and family shadows resurface. When Yi-ting asks for an abortion and a divorce, Yu-ming's vision of a happy family is shattered. His disabled father-in-law moves in, forcing Yu-ming to maintain the household while living a polite but suffocating life with a relative stranger.
