Metamorphosis of Tradition – The Piano Language of Liszt, Ligeti, and Kurtág

Date: 2026-05-28
This concert brings together three composers from different generations who have profoundly influenced piano thinking—Franz Liszt, György Kurtág, and György Ligeti.

They represent three eras in which piano expressiveness and technical vocabulary were reinvented:
Liszt, the 19th-century Romantic pioneer and visionary;
Ligeti, the 20th-century explorer of sound and innovator of structural thinking;
And Kurtág, who is still hailed as a "master of refinement" for his minimalist yet sharp musical language.

The three composers share a deep awareness of "sound"—viewing it as a vessel for memory, a trajectory of movement, and a carrier of human gesture. The piano is no longer just an instrument, but a site where emotion, time, and the body meet—allowing listeners to step into the moment of sound's birth with every keystroke.
