Orchestral Panorama — On the New Landscape of 21st Century Classical Music and Orchestras
Observing the New Era of World-Class Orchestra Conductors
Over the past twenty years, the map of international first-tier symphony orchestra conducting has shifted rapidly: generational replacement, changes in tonal aesthetics, the introduction of technology and cross-disciplinary thinking, and different directions in European and American orchestra cultures have jointly driven the restructuring of the classical music ecosystem. From Berlin to Los Angeles, Paris to Amsterdam, major orchestras are undergoing long-term and deep adjustments due to the arrival of new conductors.
This lecture series is hosted by senior music guide Lin Ren-bin (林仁斌), titled "Orchestral Panorama — On the New Landscape of 21st Century Classical Music and Orchestras," featuring five of the most representative international conductors in recent years: Salonen (沙隆年), Dudamel (杜達美), Mäkelä (麥凱萊), Shani (沙尼), and Petrenko (佩特連科). Combining musical background, sound concepts, orchestra culture, repertoire planning, and rehearsal traditions, it leads the audience to understand the core issues of 21st-century conductor and orchestra development.
Talking about Conductors, Watching Orchestras, Understanding the New Face of Classical Music
This series will compare the tonal styles of major orchestras, the artistic orientations of conductors, and the direction of concert curation, and observe their influence on the international music environment. If you follow classical music and orchestra dynamics, you cannot miss it.

Lecture 4
Shani's (沙尼) Conducting Style: The Multiple Facets of Israel (以色列), Rotterdam (鹿特丹), and Munich (慕尼黑)
The Musical Path from Pianist to Conductor
Lahav Shani (拉哈夫・沙尼) entered the field of conducting with a background as a pianist and double bass player, and quickly gained attention after winning the first prize at the International Mahler Competition in 2013. He currently conducts three major orchestras: the Israel Philharmonic (以色列愛樂), the Rotterdam Philharmonic (鹿特丹愛樂), and the Munich Philharmonic (慕尼黑愛樂), each representing different historical traditions and sound cultures.
This lecture will compare the developmental contexts and repertoire strategies of the three, and analyze how Shani (沙尼) shapes his diverse conducting vocabulary across different city and orchestra cultures.
