National Museum of Natural Science: "Ancient People Tell Stories" — First Public Display of Iron Knife Unearthed from Nantun Shanzijiao Site!

Date: 2026-03-07 — 2028-12-31 Organizer: 國立自然科學博物館
Want to learn about the Paleolithic Baxiandong (Eight Immortals Cave) on the east coast, the Neolithic Beinan and Qilin cultures, and the central Taiwan Dabenkeng, Niumatou, Damalin, Yingpu, and Fanziyuan cultures? The National Museum of Natural Science has updated its permanent exhibition, launching "Ancient People Tell Stories." The exhibition content is vivid and engaging, presented through animated video clips and multimedia interactive displays. Beyond learning what archaeology is as described in history textbooks, you can personally experience the lifestyle of ancient people in Taiwan!

Central Taiwan is currently one of the focal points of archaeological research in Taiwan. Over the past two decades, archaeologists have achieved abundant excavation results across the region. Accordingly, the National Museum of Natural Science has decided to update this permanent exhibition based on the latest archaeological findings. In addition to displaying cultivated rice discovered at the Taichung Anhe Site, a mother and child burial, a youth adorned with shark-tooth jade ornaments, and a complete iron knife unearthed from the Nantun Shanzijiao Site, the exhibition also features a deer antler with artificial saw marks from the Penghu Channel, provided by private collector Mr. Tsai Kun-yu. Combined with Dr. Chang Chun-hsiang's research on Penghu Man, this evidence proves that hunters arrived in Taiwan as early as 190,000 to 450,000 years ago. The public is warmly welcome to visit!
