NMNS "Quantum Science Special Exhibition: Measuring Power in the Minute" (量力而微:量子科學特展)
What is "quantum"? The mobile phone chips, LED lights, and GPS satellites we use every day are actually closely related to quantum principles! 2025 coincides with the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology" designated by the United Nations. The National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS), the Physical Society of Taiwan, and the Physics Research Promotion Center have jointly launched the "Quantum Science Special Exhibition: Measuring Power in the Minute" (量力而微:量子科學特展). Integrating scientific, artistic, and philosophical perspectives, it leads the public deep into the microscopic universe through visualization, life-like metaphors, interactive devices, and historical stories to explore the strangeness and revolutionary nature of the quantum world.
The special exhibition takes "seeing the extraordinary in the minute" as its main theme, from the birth of quantum concepts and theoretical debates to future technological applications, allowing the audience to gradually understand strange phenomena such as quantum superposition, quantum entanglement, and uncertainty, and further ponder the subtle relationship between "reality" and "observation."
The exhibition hall uses "Schrödinger's Cat" as inspiration for the key visual, combining the cute cat image with mathematical symbols in the Schrödinger equation to present a visual language with humor and philosophical tension, symbolizing the reimagining of reality and the beauty of rationality in quantum science. The exhibition is divided into 4 major theme units, covering quantum history, strange phenomena, technological applications, and philosophical reflections, with a series of interactive devices so that the abstract and difficult quantum concepts are no longer distant.
The closing day of the exhibition happens to be "World Quantum Day," a date taken from the numerical meaning of Planck's constant (h ≈ 4.14 × 10⁻¹⁵ eV·s). Quantum-themed activities are also being held one after another around the world this year to commemorate this key milestone. This is not just a physics exhibition, but a journey of critical thinking that challenges common sense; welcome to the exhibition hall to discover the mysteries of the quantum world and reimagine the world we know well.
