Opening the Paintbox: Fine Arts in Kaohsiung — Wang Qing-wei (王晴薇): "Poetry of the White Robe under Light Breeze and Clouds"

Date: 2026-03-11 — 2026-03-22 Organizer: (中華民國)王晴薇
Before marriage, Wang Qing-wei (王晴薇) was a senior intensive care unit (ICU) nurse. For many years, she witnessed the fragility and resilience of life alongside her patients, deeply understanding the human thirst for comfort and hope. Those years cultivated her qualities of focus and tranquility and planted a deep understanding of "warmth" in her heart. In 1998, encouraged by her family, she accompanied her daughter to learn painting and unexpectedly began her own artistic journey. Although not formally trained, she devoted herself to learning with focus and passion, studying under three mentors with distinct styles: Shen Chin-ming (沈欽銘), Chen Chi-lu (陳其祿), and Yan Feng-lang (顏逢郎), gradually establishing her own artistic vocabulary and aesthetic attitude.
Her creations mostly draw from landscapes, still lifes, and flowers, excelling at capturing light and shadow changes through delicate observation, transforming daily scenes into poetic images. Wang Qing-wei does not pursue flashy techniques but emphasizes the flow of emotion and sincere warmth. She depicts inner peace and composure with soft brushstrokes and balanced tones, giving her works a quiet and profound power. To her, painting is the poetry of life and a dialogue with the soul; every flow of color is the rhythm of the emotions in her heart.
During the process of learning and creating, Wang realized that art is not a dream distant from reality but the deepest response to life. Each work is the crystallization of her dialogue with time and emotion, as well as a gaze and gratitude for the details of life. She transformed the gentleness and focus cultivated during her nursing years into the power of the brush, making art a way to heal the soul and extend care.
This exhibition, "Poetry of the White Robe under Light Breeze and Clouds" (風輕雲淡白衣之詩), symbolizes her journey from the nursing profession to artistic creation. "White robe" represents her past role in safeguarding life, while "poetry" is the language she uses to continue care through color. The flowing layers and rhythms in her work are as calm and steady as breathing, showcasing the resilience and kindness of a caregiver. Wang Qing-wei's paintings are quiet yet powerful, as if opening a spiritual garden for the viewer amidst the bustle. She uses painting as poetry and color to write the warmth of life, conveying the unique softness and fortitude of women, bringing peace and joy to people.
