Permanent Exhibition of Fongyi Academy City Historical Site (市定古蹟鳳儀書院常設展)
Fongyi Academy is the oldest, most complete, and largest existing academy in Taiwan, founded in the 19th year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1814). During the Japanese colonial period, the Governor-General of Taiwan vigorously promoted a new educational system, causing the academy to decline and its buildings to fall into disrepair. After the war, the buildings were occupied by tenants, and the academy's layout was severely damaged.
The Bureau of Cultural Affairs initiated restoration in 2007, which was completed in October 2013. Exhibition planning followed, and the park officially opened on November 1, 2014. The museum curates exhibitions on Fongshan, Fongyi Academy, and the history of the imperial examination system to match the academy's atmosphere, and it features the ritual space of the Wenchang Temple. This site is an example of heritage revitalization, and its architectural beauty and cultural history are well worth savoring.
