Preserving Ancient Elegance: 2026 Daguan Shixiu (Grand View Ten Talents) Calligraphy Group Exhibition (別存古意—2026 大觀十秀書法聯展)

A dialogue of brush and ink across time and space, featuring the combined efforts of twenty-three outstanding calligraphy creators under the guidance of Teacher Liu Jian-bo (劉建伯), reappearing after a five-year hiatus. This exhibition features more than fifty works, bringing together years of skill from elites in various fields such as Hsinchu Science Park (竹科) talents, doctors, and teachers. These creators have won numerous awards in public art exhibitions, elevating calligraphy from an amateur hobby to a rigorous artistic pursuit, demonstrating extremely high aesthetic achievement.
This exhibition covers all five scripts (Seal, Clerical, Cursive, Running, and Standard) with diverse styles: the simple clumsiness of Northern Stele (北碑), the robust thickness of the Yan (顏) style, as well as the elegant postures of the 'Two Wangs' (二王), Huang (黃庭堅), and Mi (米芾). In terms of composition, the creators profoundly embody Deng Shiru's (鄧石如) philosophy of 'calculating white as black' (計白當黑), while boldly challenging the eccentric arrangements of Ming and Qing masters such as Wang Duo (王鐸), Fu Shan (傅山), Jin Nong (金農), and Zhang Ruitu (張瑞圖). This is a tug-of-war between ancient methods and personal execution, aiming to temper a unique personal artistic vocabulary within the thickness of the classical.

This group of art seekers from the Daguan Calligraphy Classroom (大觀書法教室) remain inconspicuous in the bustling Hsinchu City (新竹市), yet have taken deep roots in paper and ink.
