Reading Promotion: Decrypting the Code of Translating History into Comics
The secret and practical work of translating complex history into interesting comics—the Creative Director tells you all at once!
In recent years, the Chen Cheng-po (陳澄波) Cultural Foundation has painstakingly created and launched the blockbuster "RENDEZVOUS (集合!)" comics. With a large team, they plan to use a 20-year schedule to translate Taiwanese history into 120 comic volumes.
This lecture invites Tseng Chien-hua (曾建華), the Creative Director of RENDEZVOUS comics, to share with you:
How to turn complex and heavy history into lighthearted and interesting comics that teenagers also love to read?
How to use comic techniques and performance methods to capture the atmosphere of Taiwan in different eras?
From ideation to finished work, how to increase efficiency at every step?
How to operate a production team of nearly 30 people to maintain stable and efficient creation?
How to build the Taiwanese comics in your mind with limited resources and time?
What are the other cross-disciplinary cultural possibilities for comics?
The lecture will share the "steps and mindset of translating history into interesting comics," from the top-level vision and setting to the most practical workflow, using the method of "Historical Fact Core → Character Entry → Conflict Presentation → Visual Research → Modern Resonance," and sharing interesting behind-the-scenes stories to analyze the construction code of RENDEZVOUS comics for you one by one.
