Special Exhibition │ Von Wolfe's Garden Fortress (馮.沃爾夫的花園堡壘)
From Da Vinci's classics to the future of AI, opening the next century of art
Embark on a fantastic journey that spans time and space and awakens the senses
"Von Wolfe's Garden Fortress" presents the first major exhibition in Asia by British artist Von Wolfe. This exhibition brings together 69 works (including documents), spanning nearly 20 years of creative history, bringing a rare fusion of artificial intelligence and traditional oil painting, inviting the audience to step into an artistic journey where classical and digital are intertwined.
Von Wolfe comes from an artistic family and has deep artistic and philosophical literacy. The exhibition opens with his early creations that combine Picasso and Ukiyo-e styles, extending to re-interpretations of classical masters such as Da Vinci and Rembrandt. Based on traditional oil painting techniques, these works rearrange classic images in art history through visual collage and cross-cultural appropriation. In the frames, different cultural contexts dialogue with each other, not only challenging the audience's established impression of art classification, but also stimulating reflection on the relationship between culture, history and creation.
The climax of the exhibition presents Von Wolfe's wonderful achievements in co-creating with AI in recent years. By training AI models to absorb the visual structure and language of his own creations, he generates images and then delicately repaints them by hand with oil painting techniques, developing a unique aesthetic that fuses brushstrokes and algorithmic logic. These works are both exquisite and tense, combining historical allusions, contemporary vocabulary and surreal imagery to explore multiple issues such as technology and humanities, power and dignity, viewing and gender, while responding to contemporary people's deep desire for freedom and self-identity.
The exhibition title "Garden Fortress" is also rich in meaning. "Garden" echoes the greenery around the museum and is also reminiscent of the beauty and temptation of the Garden of Eden; "Fortress" is a metaphor for Taiwan's key role in international geopolitics and the technology industry. The eponymous work "Garden Fortress" in the exhibition depicts a classical garden surrounding a quantum AI supercomputer, symbolizing the opportunities and risks brought by future knowledge.
In addition to static paintings, the exhibition will also present AI-generated dynamic images, making the characters in the paintings seem to "come alive." These works are not only visually stunning, but also invite viewers to think: As creation moves towards the boundary where algorithms and perception meet, how will we re-view the world? Whether it is an audience familiar with contemporary art or a friend stepping into a museum for the first time, you can discover your own viewing perspective and inspiration in this exhibition full of sensory and thinking impact.
