Tainan City Chimei Museum [Permanent Exhibition] Fine Arts Gallery
【Permanent Exhibition】Fine Arts Gallery
Western art works are presented across three major galleries, including the "Fine Arts Gallery," "Sculpture Avenue," and "Rodin Gallery." Wandering through them, visitors can experience a special atmosphere akin to being in a foreign art museum, a thematic space that has left a deep impression on many people in Taiwan. The "Fine Arts Gallery" presents Western art from the 13th to the 20th century across four periods and eight exhibition rooms. Following the curatorial logic sequentially allows visitors to understand the conceptual development of different eras in Western art.
"Sculpture Avenue" is the only high-ceilinged space in the museum featuring a skylight design. Sculptural works reveal the nuanced beauty of light and shadow as sunlight changes, making it even more captivating. This area displays works from Ancient Greece and Rome through to the 20th century, aiming to construct a foundational context for viewing Western sculpture. The "Rodin Gallery" introduces the era and artistic environment of the "Father of Modern Sculpture," bringing together works by Rodin himself, as well as his teachers, peers, and students, alongside recreations of four major sculptor studios. Through observation and comparison, visitors can see the relationships between Rodin and the generations before and after him, as well as his contemporaries.
