Taiwan Fu City God Temple - Celestial Abacus, City Gates Reappearance, and Lantern Patrol

In 2025, the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the prefectural city, the Taiwan Fu City God Temple held the 'Fu City God City Patrol Festival,' visiting the Great East Gate, Great South Gate, Great West Gate, and Great North Gate through a circumambulation. The 'City Patrol Festival' is both an inspection of the city and a 'City Quest,' searching for those city gates demolished or lost due to the changing times, allowing the city's history to be recovered once again.
Continuing this spirit, the 2026 Lunar New Year Lantern Festival uses the 'City Gate' imagery from the circumambulation to recreate the four great city gates of the prefectural city in the temple courtyard. It also incorporates the 'Great Abacus,' a ritual instrument of the City God inside the temple, taking its meaning of 'every bead and every calculation, without the slightest error,' symbolizing the Weiling Duke's (City God) discerning of good and evil and protection of the city. Through the lantern festival, we not only pray for peace but also hope everyone will watch over the city of Tainan together.
