Tang Yi-ting "Layered Space" and Hung Sheng-hsiung "Masonry Shell"
"Layered Space" by Tang Yi-ting (Winner of the 2022 Taiwan Art New Look Awards Jury Prize)
A house becomes a home only after people live in it; every house has a different structure and story.
Residences in military families' villages grow with the changes of their inhabitants, slowly taking on the appearance of each household.
The author deduces the traces of past life through building materials from different periods: brick walls, cement, mosaics, and corrugated sheets, symbolizing additions and changes over time.
From single-entry double-sloped black tile roofs and bamboo-and-mud walls to the complex, undulating spaces and alleys,
these stories of the locale are told within the Qingshui Military Families' Village, where multiple historical traces and ethnic cultures are interwoven.
The work is inspired by buildings in past images,
exploring traces of existing materials, splicing textures and structures, and creating windows on the house.
Acrylic intaglio is transformed into a view of the past, extending the volume of the residence and creating a collective of homes.

"Masonry Shell" by Hung Sheng-hsiung (Selected for the 2020 Taiwan Art New Look Awards)
The work "Masonry Shell" starts from the everyday act of "crushing an eggshell," layering delicate nuances with the space of the military families' village through sculptural objects.
The shell is thin yet resilient; its rounded and simple form makes the details of deformation clearly visible.
The spatial layers of the work not only point to the texture stacking after the object is formed, but also metaphorically refer to the layers of techniques in the construction process and the repetitive piling of actions.
"Masonry Shell" reveals the layers of skin of time and space, presenting a landscape that is both real and abstract.
