˗ˋˏ Letting transparency become a faith, a blessing ritual translated through glass craftsmanship and circular thinking ˎˊ˗

The exhibition is named “Tou-Ming-Miao-Zai” (Transparent Small Temple). The term “Miao-Zai” (廟仔) in daily context often refers to small yet intimate places of faith in local society; they are not only gathering places for residents but also the emotional hub of many communities. By using the Taiwanese lifestyle vocabulary of “Miao-Zai,” the majesty of temples is lowered, making “transparency” a friendly and accessible state. It invites the public to step into transparency, participate in the cycle, and experience the various forms created from waste glass by the W Spring Pool Project (W 春池計畫) based on circularity, as well as the blessings for the land and life extended from the faith in “transparency.”

In exhibition planning and visual design, “The Temple of Transparency” cleverly incorporates tools required for the glassmaking process as design elements. For example, the blowpipe support stands used during glass shaping are transformed into part of the display racks; the colors used in the main visual are also taken from mullite, used in constructing glass kilns, which presents a light pink color due to interaction with materials under long-term high-temperature firing.

˗ˋˏ A participatory transparent experience, from the offering table to divination blocks for the coming year's blessings ˎˊ˗

The exhibition captures common worship ritual imagery, such as offering tables, wishing wells, divination blocks (擲筊), and fortune sticks (詩籤), and translates them into viewing steps for “The Temple of Transparency” after combining with glass craftsmanship. Upon entering Spring Pool Glass (春室), the first thing that catches the eye is the “Transparent Offering Table” filled with offerings. Fruits, candies, and biscuits made of glass become sustainable offerings, while the incense sticks and holders often seen in daily life here also symbolize the public's actual participation in transparent sustainability.

“The Temple of Transparency” exhibition also weaves the core vocabulary “transparency” through the blessings, dividing next year's good luck into three states: “Full Transparency,” symbolizing stable fortune and following steps; “Opacity,” full of surprises and experiences; and “Translucency,” with a clear direction but enjoying the unknown process. Visitors can pick up a glass bead from a glass bucket symbolizing an incense burner and throw it into the wishing well in the center of the venue to choose their hoped-for fortune for the coming year and pray for good luck for themselves.

The custom of throwing divination blocks (擲筊) and drawing fortune sticks (抽籤) common in temples has also become part of the curatorial concept. In “The Temple of Transparency,” divination blocks and fortune stick tubes specially made of recycled glass were created, inviting the public to engage in self-dialogue and explore inner possibilities through divination. Just like the creation process of glass art, where masters search for the limits of materials through skills in repeated attempts, the form of glass is born.
