Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集) — Professional Dance Workshop
Between breath, song, and rhythm,
the body becomes a carrier of cultural memory.

This workshop invites Taiwan's first contemporary full-time professional dance company focused on Paiwan (排灣族) culture—Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集), to share its 'Tjimur Body Technique' training system accumulated over many years. This method originates from tribal ancient chants, life experiences, and long-term creative practice, and has been gradually transformed, refined, and constructed over a twenty-year creative journey, forming a body training method that combines cultural foundations with contemporary performance practice.

This body technique is not a reproduction of traditional movements, but a result of repeated deliberation and generation between tribal learning, touring practice, and contemporary theater creation. It is a physical path from life to the stage, and then from the stage back to the cultural context—continually confirming one's position in the flow.

The course will start from Paiwan ancient chants and enter the body structure of Zemiyan (Circle Dance).
Zemiyan is not only a dance form but also a physical practice of generating relationships and power through 'circling'. Under the guidance of sound, through the squatting steps with a sinking center of gravity and steady rhythmic paces, a responsive relationship between the body and the land is gradually established.

In the interlacing of breathing and chanting, vibrations spread from the abdominal cavity to the spine and limbs, making movements generate from the inside out. The body not only responds to the singing but also to each other's voices and steps; in collective resonance, rhythm permeates into individual life experiences, transforming into cultural practices that can be remembered and passed on.

This workshop is not just about learning techniques, but also a practical process of understanding culture through the body. In the context of contemporary dance development in Taiwan, it also poses a question: How can the physical experience of indigenous peoples not just be preserved, but become part of contemporary dance writing? How can they leave their own position and voice in historical narratives?

Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集)

Dancing with the Paiwan body, echoing to the world.

Founded in 2006 and originating from the Tjimur (地磨兒) Village in Pingtung, Tjimur Dance Theatre is Taiwan's first full-time contemporary dance company with Paiwan culture at its core. It has been selected as a Taiwan Top performing arts team for 15 consecutive years. Led by Director Ljuzem Madiljin and Dance Director Baru Madiljin, the company developed the unique 'Tjimur Body Technique,' opening cultural memories through the body to let the Paiwan spirit bloom on stage.

Over 19 years, the company has performed across Europe, Asia, and America, accumulating over 150 international performances. Their works have appeared at the Festival Internacional Cervantino, GUIDANCE Dance Festival in Portugal, and Munich Contemporary Dance Festival in Germany. In 2025, they will tour London. They have been nominated for the Total Theatre Awards and Taixin Arts Award. In 2018, they founded the 'TJIMUR Arts & Life Festival' and curated the 'Tjimur Village Deep Tour' to promote the symbiosis of art and culture. Tjimur's dance is a continuation of culture, a memory of the land, and a contemporary expression of the Paiwan soul.
