Unlock! North Signal Tower (北號誌樓) Permanent Exhibition

The Kaohsiung Port Station North Signal Tower (北號誌樓) is currently the only signal tower in the country that completely preserves the signal tower building and facilities such as interlocking devices, interlocking iron pipes, and switches. After being closed for 14 years, the North Signal Tower was restored and opened in 2022, exhibiting the railway interlocking technology of a hundred years ago in a form that reproduces classic design.
The core of the North Signal Tower—the signal tower's most central and complex function—is to achieve interlocking between "signal and signal," "signal and switch," and "switch and switch." The interlocking machine ensures that the operation between the levers is coordinated and consistent, and then the levers "remotely control" distant switches and signals electrically and mechanically to make these devices coordinated as well. In an era without radio, signal tower employees could also control and monitor the vehicle dispatching of the entire Kaohsiung Port Station through high-volume telephones.
