【 Topic Introduction 】
'Forest Appearance Transformation' (林相變更) was a forestry policy implemented in Taiwan between 1965 and 1976 under the United Nations World Food Programme. From the economic perspective of forestry production, large areas of natural broad-leaved forests or grasslands deemed 'inferior' were cleared and replaced with high-value tree species to become plantation forests. The Shuangliu area in Shizi Township, Pingtung, became the primary experimental site for this unprecedented post-war forest transformation.

'Untamed Forest — Shuangliu Forestry Chronicles' (不馴之森—雙流林業紀事) explores the historical process of the dialogue between nature and humanity during the forest transformation in the Shuangliu area, reflecting on the complexity and changes in the relationship between forests and humans.

The evergreen broad-leaved forests stretching across the Hengchun Peninsula have nurtured rich species for thousands of years and witnessed the rise and fall of countless lives. As humans enter, interactions and conflicts unfold. In today's rapidly and drastically changing society, how humans establish long-term co-existence with forest multi-species has become an important issue.

This book launch invites writer Zou Xin-ning, who has long been involved in plant culture and cross-species relationships, and Teacher Tsai Ssu-wei to share together.

Perhaps understanding and connection can begin by re-calling names. Names have power and contain deep connections, allowing untamed life to continue and enabling people to find the possibility of coexisting with all things amidst change.
