When the Divine Steeds Gallop - Wang Tie-ying (王鐵營) Commemorative Painting Exhibition

Date: 2026-03-07 — 2026-03-29 Organizer: (中華民國)王鐵營
On December 15, 1923, Wang Tie-ying (王鐵營, pen names Wei-ren [維仁] and Mao-ren [茅人]) was born in Guilin, Guangxi. The life of this modern Chinese painting artist was much like the steeds he painted—spirited, resilient, and galloping through the long river of history. From a young age, he had a deep love for poetry, calligraphy, and painting. At 20 (1943), he was admitted to the National Guangxi Art Institute, where he devoted himself to the study of Chinese painting and calligraphy. In 1949, as the situation in mainland China changed, he joined the National Revolutionary Army and served across various regions, eventually arriving in Kinmen in 1950. He personally participated in the Battle of Guningtou and the Defense of Kinmen, rendering distinguished service to the nation. After retiring from the military, Mr. Wang settled in Taichung in 1951 and resumed his artistic career. He dedicated himself to Chinese painting and calligraphy while also teaching art at Taoyuan Municipal Dayuan Senior High School, where he mentored numerous students. On January 3, 1986, he passed away in Taichung at the age of 63. Though he has left us, his brushwork continues to resonate through the ages.
