Wood Carving Restoration 101 (木雕修護101)

Date: 2026-01-01 — 2026-12-31 Organizer: (中華民國)朱銘
Juming Museum (朱銘美術館) has long been involved in restoration research. In 2024, it completed 159 restoration cases, including domestic and international commissions. Since its founding, Juming Museum has continuously developed restoration systems and research techniques, actively responding to the preservation challenges brought by Taiwan's humid climate. In 2024, 159 works were restored, including commissions from the New Taipei City Art Museum, the Keelung City Cultural and Tourism Bureau, and Singapore's Ho Bee Land, demonstrating high trust and the professional strength of the restoration team. In the same year, facing 139 works damaged by Typhoon Krathon, the team performed immediate restoration, highlighting that restoration is not only about preserving art but also a struggle against nature and time.

"Keep it as it was; changing it is not good." This quote from Mr. Ju Ming (朱銘) perfectly captures the spirit of art restoration. "Wood Carving Restoration 101" (木雕修護101) is an exhibition that starts from an introductory perspective, leading the audience to understand this profession that combines science and art.

The exhibition title "101" is taken from the introductory course code used in American universities, symbolizing the starting point for learning basic knowledge. From diagnosis and cleaning to visual finishing, every step demands caution and respect, emphasizing the principle of "minimum intervention" to maintain the original appearance and historical traces of the works. "Wood Carving Restoration 101" (木雕修護101) is not just about professional sharing; it is a collective action that respects art and reveres time. It reveals the unseen professional work behind museum operations and conveys that art is not just about creation, but also requires subsequent protection and care. This exhibition is not just a technical introduction, but a promotion of art preservation awareness. Let us step into the world of restoration and learn about the key engineering that extends the life of art.
