Performance Name: Why did the Tiger Come Down the Mountain?
Troupe Introduction:
Yi Lan Xuan Puppet Theater (逸蘭軒掌中劇團) was officially established in 2018 by troupe leader Mr. Zhong Yi-yan (鍾逸彥). Having had a special fondness for traditional Puppet Theater (布袋戲) since childhood, which fostered a deep foundation in local mother tongue and culture, and a love for Puppet Theater performances, he named it Yi Lan Xuan Puppet Theater, meaning "Yi Lan Xuan echoes, the palm-held world is spiritual." The troupe aims to combine tradition with innovation, inheriting the characteristics of the Wuzhouyuan (五洲園) school while embracing diversity. It promotes Puppet Theater, implements the inheritance of culture and skills, and drives traditional theater art through innovative performances and educational activities, promoting the enhancement and continuation of Puppet Theater culture. In 2024 (Year 113), it was selected as an outstanding performing arts team in Miaoli (苗栗).
Plot Summary:
The story is based on the local legends of Maoli Mountain (貓貍山) and Tiger God (Hu Ye 虎爺) in Miaoli. Hu Ye, the leader in the mountains, organizes the annual "Animal Sports Meet" to promote friendship among animals. However, a group of humans goes to the mountains for a picnic and litters randomly, causing damage to the forest environment. Small animals get injured one after another, and their lives fall into hardship. To maintain the peace of the mountains and forests, Hu Ye decides to come down the mountain to teach these humans who do not care for the environment a lesson.
The plot uses vivid and interesting character building, humorous dialogue, and tight-paced plots to convey the importance of environmental protection, allowing the audience to learn to cherish resources and love nature through laughter. The performance specifically arranges interactive segments with students, making children part of the story and enhancing their sense of participation and learning effect.
